One Room Challenge Week 7: Finishing Touches?

Oh happy day!

Oh happy day indeed!

And not reveal day... it's "finishing touches for photography" day! This day, for my last 4 major reveals at #thehyggeranch, is always a day that gives me a lot of angst because there's always so many little things to day + it's not just about cleaning & styling for use... it's about cleaning & styling to share & inspire.

Final install day is a special day in so many ways because that's when I can really see the vision take form... or if I completely missed the mark lol.

What's left on my to do list?

For the mini's area...

  • hang pegboards, magnetic frames, and picture ledges

  • label sort lego storage box

  • organize rolling cart & workstation drawers

  • roll out new rug

For our work from home area...

  • hang magnetic frames

  • assemble bookshelf

  • organize rolling cart & desk drawers

For the fitness area...

  • hang artwork

If you haven't picked up on the theme yet, most of the finishing touches involving hanging things... and that's mainly because I wanted to finish the wallpaper (week 6 update) before committing to anything else on the walls, whether they were wallpapered on not. Now I can get an accurate visual of how the colors, patterns, and designs will interact.

On the other side of getting the final stages of installation is accepting that there may things that likely aren't done yet. Last week was our white glove delivery for three new pieces from Apt2B - desk, cabinet for printer & paperwork, and oversized swivel chair for the adjoining media room. FYI... I had other items from Apt2B and those items were drop shipments via FedEx.

When the cabinet was received by the warehouse, prior to delivery they did an inspection which revealed it was damaged (likely in transport but who knows for sure) and it wouldn't be in stock again until 12-10-2021. BTW... delivery delays are par for the course especially now with the industry still barely recovering from the impact of the pandemic. I wasn't surprised but I was definitely inconvenienced because I was especially looking forward to having a cased good in the flex lounge to hide store the printer, modem, and paperwork. Without the cabinet in the mix for another month (at least), I needed a reveal ready solution - my makeshift solution is not for public consumption lol. Everything else on the to do list, however, is.

And in case you're wondering, I used what used to be my daughter's 2-tier shoe rack as my makeshift printer & paper shelving.

The desk in place means I can at least use it as an anchor for that wall, which is where I decided to hang our large scale artwork from Minted, plug in picture lights from Hudson Valley Lighting, and magnetic frames from Wexel And in case you're .starting to feel a slight case of dejavu, it's because the latter two are a nearly identical set up to what's in media room.

Albie Knows ORC (Media Room)

Since there are no windows in this space & couldn't realistically float the table, I had to create my own view - artwork. After hanging the art, we installed shelves (just like those in the media room) to hold the monitor, modem, and miscellaneous decor. Even though this "worked" for a couple of months, once the new desk was in place, I was like no no no... this just won't do.

In place of the shelves - flanked on each side by the artwork - I installed the magnetic standoff frames. The initial plan was to place all 4 in the mini's area for her artwork, but at the 11th hour, I decided to split them up - a pair for the mini next to her workstation and a pair above the desk for notes & inspiration cards. Everything else is all about containment - bookshelf for books, carts for tools/accessories... so on and so forth.

Getting to this stage in the process is something that I didn't think would ever happen because it's basically been a year since I'd set out to get this done... A YEAR!

Alright dolls... that's all you get. I have a photoshoot to prep for which I am sure will come with it's own surprises. And with a photoshoot on the horizon that means I can finally show y'all all the fruits of my labor... next week.
